Voltaires novella is „read" by the director with inventiveness and humour and the essence of each event is synthesized by the humanistic ideas of power, liberty, love, war.
A modern, dynamic, full of colour and rythm show performed in Esperanto, which gives a certain charm and which is, also, a mixture of classical animation techniques with digital animation. Who is Candide? Candide comes from the Latin word „candidus" which means „white". One of the possible interpretation of this name is the innocence, the simplicity of the character. Candide: Or, The Optimist, issued in 1759, is the most complex of the philosophical works written by Voltaire and one of the greatest success of the French literature. Edited in more than 20 editions during Voltaires life and than 50 up today, translated all over the world, this novella expresses the writers positions toward noble titles. The tale of Candide begins in the castle of the Baron Thunder-ten-tronckh in Westphalia, home to the Barons daughter, Lady Cunégonde; his bastard nephew, Candide; a tutor, Pangloss; and the rest of the Barons family. The protagonist, Candide is romantically attracted to Cunégonde. He is a child of "the most unaffected simplicity", whose face is "the index of his mind". Pangloss teaches his pupils that they live in the "best of all possible worlds" and that "all is for the best". Candide, before his disillusion, thinks himself lucky and the world a good place. Discovering the love between Candide and Cunégonde, the Baron decides to chase Candide from the castle. This is the moment of a long series of misfortunes for our hero. He is enlisted by force, takes part in a heavy battle, he deserts from the army and finally he meets Pangloss, now very ill, and learns that all from the castle died. Both are trying to escape, they are arrested, then the meet with Cunégonde. By a miracle she escaped from the massacre, she was sold to some aborigines. Finally, they get married, but noe she is too old. Voltaire (1694-1778), was a French Enlightenment writer, essayist, and philosopher known for his wit, philosophical sport and defence of civil liberties, including both freedom of religion and free trade.Voltaire was a prolific writer and produced works in almost every literary form, authoring plays, poetry, novels, essays, historical and scientific works, more than 20,000 letters and more than 2000 books and pamphlets. He was an outspoken supporter of social reform, despite strict censorship laws and harsh penalties for those who broke them. A satirical polemicist, he frequently made use of his works to criticize Catholic Church dogma and the French institutions of his day.
